摘要:The MDS conjecture in coding theory implies the following striking arithmetic consequence: over any finite field of q elements, any hypersurface of dimension n at least three defined by a complete symmetric polynomial of degree at most q-3 must have at least 24q^{n-3} rational points. In this talk, we shall give a simple and unconditional proof of this consequence for all q. This is joint work with Jun Zhang.

摘要:In this talk, I will explain a joint work in progress with Bin Zhao, on a refined version of spectral halo conjecture. This conjecture concerns p-adic valuations of U_p-operator acting on modular forms with a p-power level and a nebentypus character with p-power conductor. Our work gives an explicit formula for all possible slopes appearing for such modular forms. This refines earlier joint work with Ruochuan Liu and Daqing Wan.
